Burgundy

Burgundy in plain sight
well I’d tempt and I’d stammer
unburdening
my hapless imagination
remember feeling ten feet tall?
basked in Bayberry fields
enthralled by what’s to come

Gather round and light up,
I’m advocating
lunging smoke; God, we’re levitating
befallen to love’s warm embrace, yet
Avocets still out here aviating
autumn’s deep auburn still shading
shimmering against the blue
time and time again

All my life
living in a lonesome way
had me gliding far away
so high above the dunes
toiling past Taurus, I told myself a tale or two
caught the sky by surprise
maybe it’ll be over soon
